Service Description
*Starts Wednesday March 18th 1pm ET (8pm Israel time), skipping 1st & 8th of April (Passover) and 29th of April until 27th of May. All sessions are recorded and sent with resources, open to Jews & non-Jews* Where does Jewish history begin? What can we actually prove? And which moments in Jewish history are truly crucial to know? These are the questions this course will explore, as we trace the story of the Jewish people across time and place. In this course, we will study Jewish history through both biblical and non-biblical sources, examining major events in the Land of Israel and in key Jewish communities throughout the diaspora. We will move chronologically from Genesis and Abraham, through the Exodus, the era of Kings David and Solomon, the First and Second Temples, exile and life in Babylonia, medieval Spain, North Africa and the Middle East, European Jewish communities, and Jewish life in the United States—ultimately returning to Zionism, the waves of Aliyah, ending with the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Yigal Alon, one of the leaders during Israel's foundation said: "A nation that does not know its past, their present is lacking, and their future is shrouded in fog." Understanding the deep and rich history of our Jewish people opens a whole world of understanding and connection, and creates an opportunity to truly connect to the story of the Jewish people.
